"The viability of football at the high school level remains unquestioned in most communities in the United States." This means that we don't really know how football is going to be used in high schools, because everyone has a different opinion on the game. The sport may or may not be taken away for safety issues. "The football deaths this year have involved a range of positions." The author means that it is not just the quarter back or wide receivers getting hurt, but anyone that is on the field. People may think that the special skills players are sustaining the injuries, when in fact any single player can be subject to injury. The author talks about "declining youth participation," which can be the result of parental influence or mainly the child not wanting to get hurt. Either way, there are less and less children playing the game of football, in part because risk of injury.

When an author writes an article they use items that help the reader understand their point. These definitions include exemplification, descriptions, process, and classification and division. Exemplification tells what something does or what it is meant for. Descriptions are verbal or visual and show what everything is about. Process helps people to know what is being done. Classification and division give priority and order to the items that the author is talking about.
In the article "As Worries Rise and Players Flee, a Missouri School Board Cuts Football" it is talking about how football may be to violent for kids to play. With the number rising in concussions and death in football related injuries, people are getting scared. Parents, youth, and administrators worry about the life long effects caused by football. With schools cutting out football, this takes away jobs for teachers, coaches, and refs as well as money that just funds the school in general. Thinking about it if you take high school football out of the mix, who goes on to play college football, or even professional. This economic gaze is very economic because it is like a chain reaction, that needs to be evaluated and confronted to keep people safe and with jobs.

In writing certain essays it is important to use the right language and terms. In our essay right now it is especially important to use subject specific rhetorical terms. Terms like this help the reader know what to focus on and what to expect from the paper that they are going to be reading. A reader can't just know everything, you kind of have to guide them along. Rhetorical terms allow for a smooth passage through the essay, and make the article more interesting to read as well as providing facts for the audience to take in.
Openness: a way to allow people to look at an image or text and have a wide variety of ideas to go through.
Verbal Anchoring: no text, a hint, or an explication of the metaphor, employs similarity more than connection
Eye Tracking: someones eye patterns mainly look behind and around the "focus" of attention, so these can be tracked to get people noticing certain items even when they're in the background
Implicit advertising text: a way that subtly gets people to recognize a product, while just making you thinking about it in the back of your mind
Explicit advertising text: form of advertisement that just comes out and says what the author or person has to offer, and what you can expect from them

I decided to compare and contrast my blog 3B with Celeste Calderwood, on peer editing another students paper. We both like the idea of a peer edit because it can help to get a different perspective, which may not have been seen before. She however said peer editing is one of her favorite things to do, whereas it is not mine. We also think it just helps to steer the author in the right direction and make the paper flow better, and make more sense. Our opinions were actually quite similar, there was not much variation between our two blogs, because we both held the same stand point on the topic.

Compare and contrast helps to show how things are similar and different within the same article. In this you can do the compare and contrast in a point by point or subject by subject. This means that you can break it up and find the things in it that are alike like the main point while there may be small differences. The reader is able to look at the overall view while making inferences about how the article is subtly difference. There are many different ways you can look at compare and contrast in a variety of different forms.
In the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" videos that we watched there were many similarities and differences. The overall theme of the video was the same, but there were small changes in them. Tempo, sound, and the form of singing was different in general on these two videos. Also, the art was done by professionals in one video and the other was done by grade school children. It doesn't matter what it is, you can almost always find a way to compare and contrast. It is important to put these examples in categories in able to have a better understanding of what is going on.
